Principal’s News

Dear Parents

Panda Road School, Chengdu Visit to CWBS

We had a very successful visit from our sister school Panda Road School in Chengdu last week.

Particular thanks to those Year 6 families who hosted Panda road students and to Mrs Saunders, our Art EA and Mr Craig our PE teacher for their support with Art and PE lessons. We look forward to our reciprocal visit for Year 5 students which will now be early in Term 3, in late April 2017.

Year 4-6 Camps

This week is camp week with students in Years 4, 5 and 6 off at camp in various parts of Hong Kong. The weather has been very kind and students have had a great time learning new things, taking on new challenges and making new and deeper friendships. Many thanks to the staff, both class teachers, specialist teachers and members of the leadership team who gave up their time this week, away from their own families, to go to camp and provide students with this wonderful learning experience. Whilst it is a very tiring, 24 hours a day experience it is greatly appreciated.

Our final Year 4 camp, for 4W and 4T is being held this coming Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 November at Cheung Chau.

25th Anniversary ‘International’ School Fair

Our annual school fair was held on 5 November and it turned out to be a great day with wonderful weather and a real sense of relaxed, community spirit. It also raised a great deal of money for the PTA and school that we will have no trouble putting to good use. Playground amenity for students will continue to be improved with extra shade umbrellas, seating, equipment (both sporting and construction) and games. We will also buy Chinese readers, mother tongue books and more home readers.

A big thank you to all the parents, staff and especially the PTA admin team for all their work and support in organizing this major event. Also to the commercial operators who attended and contributed to the atmosphere and success of the day.

School Sports Days

Parents in Years 1-3 should have received an email this week about our upcoming Junior Sports Day next Wednesday 24 November, being held at the sports centre at HKUST. It is at least 5 years since we have held the sports day at HKUST and it is great that we are able to book and use this wonderful facility this year. (This is thanks to the collaborative agreement (MOU) we recently negotiated between ESF and HKUST). Parents are most welcome to join us for the morning between 9.30am and 1.00pm. Please note parking on HKUST is not possible, the nearest parking is next to the Caltex petrol station. Please ensure you complete the e-permission form so your child can participate and advise us if you wish to collect your child directly from the sports centre at 1.00pm.

The senior sports day for Years 4-6 is being held the following week on Wednesday 30 November at the same venue. An email with full details will be sent home early next week.

Mother Tongue Evening

Canadian-education specialist, Eowyn Crisfield, is returning to Hong Kong offering another presentation for parents of children that have one or more languages at home that are different to the language at school. The presentation will outline the challenges these children face in attending school in a language that is not their mother tongue. Eowyn Crisfield will discuss the importance of mother tongue and how its continued support improves cognitive growth, acquisition of knowledge at school and their learning of the school language and will provide parents an opportunity to ask any questions.

The session will take place at Clearwater Bay School on Monday 28 November 2016 (7.00pm-8.30pm).

If you are interested, please click here to confirm your attendance.

Crazy Hair Day

On 2 December, the Student Representative Council will be running a Crazy Hair Day to help raise money for Mission Possible. The Student Council encourages everyone to be creative and come to school with a crazy hairstyle. There will be an award for the craziest hair on the day for each class. Children will need to wear full school uniform. Please make a donation of $20 or more.
