PTA News

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Fruity Friday

Green Week, led by teacher Ms Justine Taylor and her team of Eco Warriors, will be from 22nd– 26th January. Fruity Friday was a huge success last year, the students loved it and across the school, there were 22 types of fruit sampled. We’re aiming to do the same this year again this year, on Friday 26th January and will need parents’ assistance and support for each class. The Class Contacts have been emailed and they will get in contact with you if help is required. Please support and assist them.

Staff Appreciation Lunch

There were 67 different dishes for the Staff Appreciation Lunch last 12th December! All our staff thoroughly enjoyed the many food choices so thank you very much to everyone who contributed! Thanks also to Olivia Morley for organising the lunch together with Karen Gibson and Tessa Benady. We still have a lot of dishes at the PTA office so please come and retrieve them.

Winter Music Spectacular

It was fantastic to watch so many students perform at the Winter Music Spectacular last 12th December! They showcased what they have learned during after school activities with Mr. Ryan Brodersen. Ryan worked very hard putting the event together and it was great success.  After the concert, parents and students enjoyed some festive cheer with biscuits, minced pies and hot drinks.  We collected $1776 for Operation Santa Claus. Thank you to everyone who donated!

Events in December, January & February

26th January       Year 5 & 6 Social              6-7.30pm

29th January         PTA Committee Meeting   5:15pm

2nd  February      Year 3 & 4 Social             6-7.30pm

9th February        Sausage Sizzle (No hot lunches)

The very popular Year 5 & 6 Social promises to be a fun night with pizza, face painting, tattoos, music and dancing!  We need two or three parents to organise the event and around 25 volunteers to help out on the night.  As yet, we do not have organisers so if you can help, please contact the PTA as soon as possible. If organisers are not found by Tuesday 16th January, the event will be cancelled. Volunteers will be able to sign up using the online registration form, when it is sent out.

The Sausage Sizzle is always hugely popular with the students and staff but we do need an organiser and quite a few volunteers. An online sign up form will be sent out by email soon with a section for parents to volunteer.

Organising socials and sizzles is not difficult as PTA staff provide a lot of help, including ordering the supplies and collecting payments. Parent organisers usually coordinate the volunteers, and for socials, decide on the theme and organise the schedule for the evening. If you are able to organise either the Year 5 & 6 social, Year 3 & 4 social or the sausage sizzle, please contact May or Sarah in the PTA office, tel. 2358 3286 or email cwbspta@cwbs.edu.hk.

Payments for events must be sent in as soon as possible AFTER you have registered your child. If you have more than one child, you can send in one cheque payment for all your children, but please remember to write all their names and classes clearly on the back of the cheque so we can correctly allocate the payment.

Some parents send in payment without registering online first. This causes a lot of confusion and extra work so from now on, any payments received without a corresponding registration will be returned.

Technology Parent Information Session – Be Internet Awesome

We are holding a parent information session on Tuesday 16 January to launch the ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program with parents. Results and data from the recent IT survey that more than 200 parents completed will also be shared and many of the issues raised by parents will be discussed. These include screen time, eyestrain, supervising and monitoring computer use, being safe online and using social media. The session will be from held from 6.00pm

Lost Property

Lost property continues to be a challenge. Please talk to your children about taking care of their belongings and ask them to look in the lost property boxes if they lose something. You can also help by ensuring all items that are brought to school are clearly labelled with the child’s name and current class. We often find children wearing hats that don’t belong to them because they don’t know how to check if it belongs to them!  Show your child the labels on their clothing so that they know where to look. Explain to your children that they should not borrow from the lost property boxes as this causes problems for the owner when they come to look for their items.

PTA & Uniform Shop Opening Hours

This term, the PTA office will open weekdays from 8:00am – 2:45pm except Wednesdays when the office will be closed. The uniform shop opens on Mondays from 8am – 4pm. Parents are always welcome in the PTA Office, we have stationery items and second hand uniform for sale, tea and coffee as well so please pop in anytime you are in school.
