Principal’s News

Dear Parents,

What a year it has been. Looking back over 2020 we have all had to cope with unexpected and unprecedented challenges. Students, staff and parents have shown great resilience, and we have much to be proud of.

With the holidays starting today, I hope that all CWBS families are able to relax, unwind and enjoy time together. It is a special time of the year indeed, and I hope that all families have a wonderful break.

Finally, a sincere thank you for your support this term. Merry Christmas, and Happy Hanukkah to all families celebrating. Have a wonderful holiday, and all the best for a happy and healthy 2021!

Final Week of Term

We all enjoyed our end of term assemblies over the last couple of days. It was lovely to come together on zoom and wish each other happy holidays. Thank you to the many families who shared photos of their holiday preparations. It was great to see everyone getting into the holiday spirit! If you missed it, you can watch the video here. A reminder that if you would like to support Save the Children, who lead the annual Christmas Jumper Day, the link is as follows: https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/christmas-jumper-day/about

Term 1 Reports

Term 1 reports for all students were shared on Wednesday. We hope that these important documents are useful to parents in understanding the learning and progress of your child. Please contact your child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team if you have any questions.

Term 2 Plans

Term 2 starts on Monday 4th January 2021. Whether the term starts online or in person is of course yet to be decided. Detailed planning for all possible scenarios has taken place to ensure that all students can make a positive start, whatever the circumstances. If it is a distance learning start to term, timetables and tasks will be shared on Sunday 3rd Jan at 4pm. Teachers will be taking a much needed break over the holidays. Should you have a query, please contact the school office at info@cwbs.edu.hk or 23583221.

PTA Art Exhibition

Please see the PTA news section below for an exciting art exhibition soon to be taking place! The committee have been working hard to organise fun events for the community, and it is hoped that many children will enjoy getting creative and taking part. I look forward to seeing the exhibition take shape after the break.

ESF Online Chinese Language Festival

This year ESF will be holding an online Chinese Language Festival. The Chinese Language Festival is to promote Chinese language education and to provide an opportunity for students to understand and appreciate Chinese culture. The festival is a platform for young learners to showcase their interest and talent in using the language to create, present, and communicate with others. If you have any questions about the festival, please make contact with the event organisers. The contact details are available on the website. Online registration is now open. Please find the link here for all information.  https://talentshow.itokchinese.com/

PYP – Y6 How We Express Ourselves

Students in 6B have been thinking about the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’. They are Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Give, and Take Notice. The class has created some wonderful posters designed to promote and share these importance messages with an audience. Here are a few examples.

News from the Eco Warriors

The CWBS Eco Warriors have been meeting each week on Zoom to discuss their ideas to help our school community be eco friendly and sustainable. We have been finding out about how things can be recycled in Hong Kong.

Did you know that new recycling centres and stores are popping up around Hong Kong.  Have a look at these photos of a new recycling shop in Sheung Wan where you can earn dollars for each kilo you recycle. You can find out more about these recycling centres on the HK government waste reduction website here.

Some students have taken action of their own by doing beach clean ups. Here is a photo of our 3C Eco Warrior, Desmond with all the rubbish he collected at a local beach.

In November we all learnt how to use the Inaturalist app so that we could spot nature all around us and enter a Hong Kong wide competition. Our 5K Eco Warrior Iryna spotted this beautiful rose.

In December we entered a competition to design and make our own pencil pots from reusable and recycled materials. The finished pots will be gifted to our teachers/EAs when we return to school.  You can see all the designs here. Congratulations to our 4M Eco Warrior, Elissa who created the winning design which you can see here.

In January, we hope to launch a plastic free month at CWBS.  We will be encouraging our classmates to bring nude food to school. That means snacks that have no wrappers or packets. Please watch this space for more details.

Finally, here is a Christmas message from our 3B Eco Warrior, Mysha. Amongst all the fun of Christmas and the holidays, please do think about making choices that are good for our planet.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Virtual Art Exhibition

To embrace the culturally diverse makeup of our school community, we would like to invite the CWBS students to celebrate the different cultures with us by joining our virtual art exhibition. The PTA will be hosting a Virtual Art Exhibition via Kunstmatrix with the theme of Diversity, Culture and Celebrations.

We are asking our students to submit a high resolution photograph of a piece of art (it can be in the form of painting, sketches, colored drawings or sculptures) they are to create over the holiday about either their favorite cultural celebration or items that represent their culture.

Please note the following details:

  1.     Submit your work by Monday, 4th January, 2021 to our email cwbspta@cwbs.edu.hk
  2.     Kindy note that we are only accepting one piece of work per student.
  3.     Please ensure digital photograph of the artwork is of high resolution and clarity.
  4.     Please limit your file size to less than 10MB as some email servers would fail to send files sizes over 10MB.
  5.     Please rename the file submitted to student’s Name and class

For example: File name: Bobby Chan – 2A

  1.     Optional: Write a short paragraph or sentence explaining your artwork.

Good luck and enjoy everyone!

The PTA wishes the Clearwater Bay School Community Happy Winter Holidays
