Principal’s News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 4-6 Sports Day

Last Friday’s Year 4-6 sports carnival was a great success, just like the Year 1-3 carnival 2 weeks earlier. We were very pleased to be able to use the wonderful facilities at HKUST and it is hard to imagine a more idyllic venue for a school sports carnival. We were very lucky with fine and clear weather and the wind dropped as the day progressed making the day very enjoyable for everyone involved. It was very pleasing to see so many students participating and trying their best in the running events and circuit activities. It was also fantastic that so many parents made a real effort to join us on the day. Thanks to our Education Assistants and Admin staff who helped to run events and of course a big thank you to Mr Andrew Craig , our PE teacher for organizing both the sports days.

Winter Music Spectacular

Congratulations to all our music performers for their wonderful efforts at the Winter Music Spectacular on Tuesday evening. Everyone in the audience was most impressed with the musical skills on display, particularly given that the various music clubs have only been running for 8 weeks during the term. A big thank you to Mr Ryan Brodersen our music teacher for all his extra time and effort in working with the senior choir, Chinese drumming, recorder and xylophone groups. Special thanks also to Ms Heidi Cooke and Ms Harriet Gleave for their work with the junior choir and to Ms Natasha Yuan for helping with senior choir and Ms Jennifer Doo for assisting with Chinese drumming. Thank you also to the PTA for their efforts in spreading Christmas cheer after the concert, as befitting the season.

IT Parent Information Session – Be Internet Awesome

We are holding a parent information session on Tuesday 16 January to launch the ‘Be Internet awesome’ program with parents. Results and data from the recent IT survey that more than 200 parents completed will also be shared and many of the issues raised by parents will be discussed. These include screen time, eyestrain, supervising and monitoring computer use, being safe online and using social media. Please see the notice and sign up details later in this newsletter to RSVP your attendance.

News From Library

At Clearwater Bay School, we fully support mother tongue reading.  The School Library has a Language Section displaying books in many languages.  At this time of year, many families are returning to their home countries and we kindly ask for your assistance and help in purchasing a few children’s books in your own language to help resource the Library.  All purchases would be reimbursed.  Please ensure you keep the receipt! Thank you for supporting our global library!

Learning Technology Workshop for Parents

We will be holding a Technology workshop on Tuesday 16 January from 6.30pm. Please kindly put the date in your diary! More details will follow at the beginning of next term.

Clearwater Bay School 25th Anniversary Book
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Clearwater Bay School, we are putting together a hardcover book with a limited print run. We expect the price to be around $150 but will need to know how many parents and members of the school community would be interested in purchasing before we commence the print run.

Feeding Hong Kong

We started collecting packets and cans of food for Feeding Hong Kong on 28 November. In just over two weeks we have received an amazing amount of food, with over 1000 kind donations. The food is going to go to help people in Hong Kong, who are in need during the holidays. The Year 6 House Captains would like to thank everyone who sent in food and made a difference to the lives of many people.

Thank you!

Teya Nainani (6R), Cynthia Mu (6C) and Peony Lee (6J)

Senior Choir Performance at Sai Kung

On Saturday, I participated in the senior choir performance at Sai Kung Waterfront Pavilion for the Christmas concert. It was an amazing experience to sing in front of such a big audience. There were other dance and singing shows which were very entertaining. I would like to thank Mr. Ryan Brodersen for preparing us for this performance. I love singing and would want to participate in more such performances.

Students’ Achievements

Julius Zhu (3M) participated in the marine plastic pollution art exhibition and amazingly a lady would like to purchase Julius’ artwork. Julius generously decided to donate all the money of $500 HK dollars to the Micro garden of CWBS. Well done, Julius!
