Principal’s News

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the start of Term 3. As you are no doubt aware, we are still in distance learning mode until we are advised otherwise by the Hong Kong Government and Education Bureau.

Even though classes are suspended we have had both new students and staff join us in that time.  This term I would  like to welcome Samanatha Ko to CWBS, as our new Education Assistant working with 5L and 5K. We also have a number of new students who will be joining after next week, from 1st May.

Earth Day – Wednesday 23rd April

Wednesday was Earth Day and there were a range of activities organised for different year levels to highlight the importance of the day.  The blue and green dress theme for check ins and check outs was also a feature. A big thank you to Ms Jo Cadman, our Environmental Sustainability Coordinator for all her work coordinating our celebration of  Earth Day. Thanks also to Alyson Hamilton and Dee Saunders for their assistance.

Year 6 PYP Exhibition

In their final year of the PYP, students actively participate in a culminating learning experience called exhibition. Exhibition is a highlight in our CWBS calendar, and something that our students look forward to achieving when they reach Year 6. Exhibition is an opportunity for our Year 6 students to demonstrate how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and learner profile attributes throughout their years of learning at CWBS. This year, through the ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit of inquiry, Year 6 students will explore, document and share their understanding of an issue of personal significance.

Due to the current circumstances, our Year 6 students have embarked upon their exhibition in a unique fashion. This year’s exhibition unit of inquiry started this week and will continue until 12 June. While we certainly hope that our year 6 students will be able to return to school for at least some of their exhibition, we are prepared for the possibility that their exhibition will be completed entirely through distance education. We wish our Year 6 students all the best as they embark on their PYP exhibition.

Book Week Online 2020  4th-8th May

We are really excited about the online activities being created for Book Week 2020. The theme of ‘Reading creates Well-being’ will  include writing magical stories, creating books, and the much loved book character dress up to name just a few of the activities coming soon on 4th-8th May. We will keep you posted with all the details through your class teachers.

It has been wonderful to read a range of writing that has been uploaded across our year levels.

For those that have uploaded thank you for entertaining each other with your creativeness.

Please enjoy some samples below from the many uploaded.  To read more, year 1 & 2 students you can read each others’ on your blogs and year 3-6 you can click on the links in the cahoot slide show to read a wide variety of writing. Enjoy and continue uploading if you would like.

A new book about the coronavirus to share with children

The link below is to a new book about the Coronavirus specifically written for parents to read to their children. The book is written in a factual style to give children information about the coronavirus and its impact on our lives. It deals with numerous issues that will no doubt raise further questions that your children will want to discuss with you. I would suggest that you have a close look at the book and its contents before reading it to your child so that you are comfortable with reading it and discussing the issues involved with your child.
