Principal’s News
Dear Parents,
Earlier this week, it was strange for everyone to be saying our ‘in person’ goodbyes to Y4, 5 and 6 students ahead of the winter break. However, I am sure that students will continue to show their perseverance and enthusiasm next week as we end the term online. Throughout the term, CWBS staff have been impressed by the students’ adaptability and resilience, which has also been shown in abundance by staff and parents!
In this week’s newsletter:
- Final week of term
- Term 2 plans
- ESF Online Chinese Language Festival
- Newsletter on the move
- PYP – Year 2 and Year 4
- Student Achievements
Final week of term
Class Celebrations
As we end the term, there will be class celebrations on Thursday 10th December. Children can enjoy some games, songs and fun on Zoom with their friends and teachers. Further details will be shared by class teachers.
Final Assemblies
End of term assemblies will be held on Zoom on either Thursday 10th or Friday 11th December at times to be announced.
Christmas Jumper Day
Friday 11th December is Christmas Jumper Day, an event led by Save the Children, who work to improve children’s lives around the world. All children are invited to either wear a Christmas jumper, or their favourite brightly coloured clothes, on this day. If you would like to support Save the Children, please click on the link below.

Sharing the holiday spirit!
We would like your help to spread some holiday cheer. Please share your photos of Christmas decorations and dress ups, or any other winter holiday preparations on this dropbox link by next Tuesday 8th December. We will then collate and share the photos back to our CWBS community through the newsletter and end of term assemblies.
Friday 11th December
Please note – term will end at 12noon on Friday 11th December. Class teachers will be in contact with details of zoom schedules for this day.
Term 2 Plans
Term 2 starts on Monday 4th January 2021. Whether the term starts online or in person is of course yet to be decided. Detailed planning for all possible scenarios is ongoing to ensure that all students can make a positive start, whatever the circumstances. We will of course be in contact as soon as we know how the term will start.
ESF Online Chinese Language Festival
This year ESF will be holding an online Chinese Language Festival. The Chinese Language Festival is to promote Chinese language education and to provide an opportunity for students to understand and appreciate Chinese culture.
The festival is a platform for young learners to showcase their interest and talent in using the language to create, present, and communicate with others. If you have any questions about the festival, please make contact with the event organisers. The contact details are available on the website.
Online registration is now open. Please find the link here for all information. https://talentshow.itokchinese.com/
Newsletter on the move
Our weekly CWBS newsletter will next term be moving solely across to the ESF app. This change will allow parents easy access to the newsletter on mobile devices. This move from the website to the app will support the sharing of community events, whilst being respectful of student privacy. In the meantime, the newsletters are no longer available on the CWBS website, but can be accessed on the app via previously received messages.
PYP – Year 4 ‘Where we are in place and time’
In year 4 students have been exploring the causes of migration as well as the effects it can have on both individuals and communities. As part of their art work linked to this unit, students have been developing their modelling skills to create some beautiful dioramas showing a small boat on stormy seas. Well done Y4 students – you have shown wonderful creativity in this unit of inquiry.
Year 2 -‘How we organise ourselves’
Throughout the unit ‘How we organise ourselves’ Y2 students have researched and made connections about the function of systems in their local communities and wider communities. Questions asked were; How do systems serve the needs of the community? How does the transport system impact the environment and How are systems different in different places? Some students inquired into the HK transport system by taking trips on weekends to deepen their understanding of how the transport system serves the community. Writing letters to friends and then sending them through the postal system helped students understand how the system works. Students inquired into a personal inquiry about a system of their choice and shared their learning either as a video, poster or a book. In maths students have made connections and inquired into patterns in the number system.

You will notice the return of the student achievements section of the newsletter below. Congratulations to Edward Li, in 3B, on his amazing achievements in a range of piano competitions. If you would like to share your child’s success in out of school activities, please let us know.
