Principal’s News

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your understanding and support during this school week. We appreciate it has been a challenging time in relation to health for our school and others in Hong Kong, and we hope that all students and families are feeling well and healthy again as soon as possible. As we end the week, we expect that students in suspended classes will return to school on Monday, and look forward to learning together again next week. In this week’s newsletter:

  • Planning for Full Days at School
  • Medical Update
  • Redress – Competition Winners
  • Box of Hope
  • PYP – The Programme of Inquiry

Planning for Full Days at School

We are aware that there many families are eager to have their children return to attending full days at school. The leadership team is currently working with the Education Bureau (EDB) and ESF to plan for a return to full day program for all our CWBS students. This important work is based on maintaining the health and safety of all our students and staff, whilst providing the best learning experiences we can at school.

We hope to be able to communicate further details about a full day program with parents in the near future. In the meantime, we will continue to provide a quality blended program of learning in school each morning and learning at home each afternoon.

Medical Update

Please continue to prioritise your child’s health at this time. If students are unwell, please keep them at home. If students are well, we look forward to learning in school together. Further advice is included below in the Medical News section. Please contact our school nurse if you have questions about your child’s health at this time.

Redress – Competition Winners

Following on from the Redress HK Story competition, to which entries were submitted last month, we are happy to announce that we have two winners from Clearwater Bay School.

  • First place winner – Riley Yeung
  • Runner Up – Hiro Wong

The students wrote a story based on an item of clothing that was important to them, perhaps repaired, reused or recycled. Congratulations to all students who entered the Redress Story Competition. Certificates will be awarded to students early next week for their participation.

Box of Hope

A reminder that we are now supporting the ‘Box of Hope’ charity. This group aims to support underprivileged children in Asia, and is taking place this year as an online donation (via their website www.boxofhope.org) rather than item collection as in previous years. Thank you in advance to any families able to support this action.

PYP – The Programme of Inquiry

Our programme of inquiry is collaboratively developed to build a whole-school, long-term plan for learning. It ensures that students experience broad, balanced, conceptual and connected learning throughout their time in school. The units of inquiry build on previous learning and are age-appropriate.  It is based on the six transdisciplinary themes and incorporates our learning outcomes from all curriculum areas.

The Transdisciplinary Themes

Who we are

Where we are in place and time

How we express ourselves

How the world works

How we organise ourselves

Sharing the planet

Please click here to view the Program of inquiry for 2020-21 and take time to read about our units of inquiry on the display board next to the PTA office.

Have a lovely weekend,

Michael Dewey

Principal

Medical News

Medical Advice

A warm reminder that at this time, students should only attend school if they are symptom free. Students with fever of >37.5 forehead skin temp, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, headache, muscle aches, generalised malaise should rest at home and not be sent to school. If a student develops these symptoms at school, the parent/guardian will be asked to pick the student up from school and it is recommended by CHP that the student seeks medical advice.

Health Monitoring

We have an ongoing responsibility to monitor absences and sickness. Please continue to let us know if your child is ill in any way by emailing Nurse Teresa with a description of symptoms (nurse@cwbs.edu.hk). Also, if your child has seen a doctor and been confirmed with an illness, please send a copy of the doctor’s note.

PTA News

The PTA Shop continues to be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by appointment 8.15-12.15. Samples of the new ESF winter uniform are available to view too.

Thanks for your continued support
