Principal’s News
Dear Parents,
I hope that everyone enjoyed the half term break, and that families were able to rest and relax together in the cooler weather. Students have made a settled start to the new half term this week. Today, children and staff have today enjoyed dressing down, and re-wearing clothes that have been repaired, swapped, upcycled or secondhand, in support of the NGO Redress. Thank you to all students and families for supporting this group over the past month.

PTA AGM – Monday
All parents and teachers are invited to join the annual PTA AGM next Monday 2nd November 2020 at 6pm in the school hall. This important annual event will be taking place in person in order to comply with legal requirements of the PTA operations. The AGM will be run in accordance with EDB/CHP guidelines in order to support community health and safety.
The CWBS PTA exists as a partnership between parents and school staff, and aims to foster a sense of community and cohesion by providing social enrichment opportunities for parents and students to enjoy. The PTA also supports the school with much valued fundraising for resources additional to those provided by ESF funding.
The AGM is a necessary part of PTA operations, and also an opportunity for parents to hear reports from PTA members and the school. Attendance is not an indication of interest in joining the committee, and it is possible to attend purely as an observer. There will be parking available on the evening.
If you are able to attend, it is essential to sign up via the Google doc, so that attending numbers can be confirmed. There is a minimum required number for the meeting to proceed, as well as maximum number due to health and safety precautions. See the PTA news section below for the link to sign up. Thank you in advance to all parents able to join us and support the PTA for this meeting.
Redress Day
As we come to the end of Redress month, we would like to thank our CWBS community for participating in events to support the NGO Redress, who focus on the issue of fast fashion and clothing waste. Today CWBS ended Redress month by participating in Redress day where we revived, repaired, restyled, reweared, received, repurposed, and recycled clothing. The students were very creative with many of them restyling and repurposing old clothes to make new headbands, bracelets and outfits. In total CWBS raised 12,840 to donate to Redress. Well done Clearwater Bay School!
All submissions for the Redress story competition have been received by the NGO and the winners will be decided in the coming weeks. If you would like to make clothing donations to Redress, you can drop off washed mens, womens, and children’s clothing and fashion accessories to the locations listed on this link https://www.redress.com.hk/clothing-collection/2020. The closest locations to our school are Pizza Express Park Central in TKO, Timberland in Popcorn Mall, and TKO Plaza. Thank you to all the members of our community in supporting our eco warriors and student council members to plan and run such a successful event!
Sports Days
The planned sports events scheduled to take place on 26 November and 2 December will unfortunately not be able to go ahead due to the current health situation. It is our hope and intention that these events will be rescheduled for alternative dates later in the school year once EDB guidelines make this possible.
PYP – Year 4 How We Organise Ourselves
The year 4 students have just completed their inquiry into the central idea, ‘Community facilities reflect human needs’. As part of their learning, students chose a facility that might be useful in a local community and created a design of the building and its features. They took into account the needs and wants people might have. Here are photographs of some of the excellent models created by students in 4M. They would be a fantastic addition to any community!
Thank you as ever for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend.
